Money Intelligence: 401(k) for everyone

Overview:

Money Intelligence originally contracted me to increase user engagement on their platform through developing customized content.  After research and testing, however, I found that users weren't engaged in the platform because functionality was unclear and the most useful data was located in sub-pages.  So, I tackled Information Architecture first to restructure the sight.  From there I redesigned the platform, home page and email campaigns to incentivize desired user behaviors.

Team and Duration

My role in this project was as a UX Designer with primary focus on research, user testing, wire framing, business strategy and marketing.

After the original student project I was hired by Money Intelligence to continue this work.

Initial Solutions Overview

I developed a holistic redesign strategy that extended beyond the user interface to the other parts of the website.  After identifying primary pain paints I prioritized solutions using an implementation roadmap of immediate, short term and long term redesign goals.

Research

I began with a broad survey of the industry to establish best practices in Direct + Indirect Competitors as well as other industry leaders.  From there, I dove deep into each and made a large catalogue of annotated screen shots to inform design decisions moving forward.

User Testing

I tested the current platform with current and potential users to gather data on user pain points.  During this process, I also recorded audio and video to validate design decisions.

Primary Pain Points

Research, User Testing and Interviews all confirmed that the site contained financial jargon that intimidated new users while existing users were constantly clicking to sub pages to access the information they wanted.

This indicates an inefficient site structure and necessity for new copywriting as well as a reworking of the data visualization.

Define

Using affinity mapping and other brainstorming techniques, I built basic prototypes and tested them repeatedly to confirm my working hypotheses.

Redesign MVP + Roadmap

I developed a staggered implementation plan which allows the redesign to be rolled out in stages.  First steps were basic, redistributing current modules, with the next steps redeveloping primary user pain points.

Clickable Prototype

I developed a lo-fi prototype to illustrate my primary solutions.  I used this in testing moving forward.

In Progress

I was hired to continue this project and dive deeper into my original findings.  First steps were a home page reworking including copywriting.  Below is a sample some of my solutions with more to come.
